About Us

Paul and Sarah EdwardsThe idea for this site arose from two dreadful experiences we hope no one else will have to suffer through.

Bestselling authors Paul and Sarah Edwards, who created and operate this site, have been interested in health most of their lives. They've always relished learning and doing what they can to live happy, healthy lives. But these two experiences convinced them they not only want to live healthfully, but also want to provide a way we can share with one another what we can do to stay well, get well, and live well.

It all started last spring when Paul needed hemorrhoid surgery. He had been hoping to get along without such a drastic step because of hemorrhoid surgery's reputation as one of the most uncomfortable surgeries. He gathered as much information as he could, began taking supplements that promote healing before the surgery, but discovered words did not convey how many difficulties he would experience his experience would be … until Sarah suggested one simple thing that made his situation bearable - something the doctor didn't tell him and nothing on the web or in phone calls to hotlines suggested either. You can read about what he discovered in his entry about it here.

Several weeks later when Paul saw the surgeon again, he told him about what he discovered. The doctor expressed surprise but welcomed the information. Hopefully he has shared what Paul learned.

While writing out what he learned for the doctor, Paul had the idea for this site. But it took yet another miserable experience to convince the Edwards to drop their careers as writers and create it.

The summer following Paul's surgery, Sarah was advised to begin taking a commonly prescribed medication. Inexplicably she resisted taking the medication as soon as she picked up the prescription. Her stomach would actually turn over at the thought of taking it, but she proceeded as advised. Within the month she began developing the worst back pain. It got so bad she had to stop exercising. She could no longer do her daily yoga/tai chi session. It hurt too much to continue her regular hikes in the mountains where they live. Finally she could barely get up out of a chair unassisted.

It never occurred to her that this terrible pain could be related to the medication until she saw, buried in the tiny print of a newspaper ad for a similar medication, that severe back pain was a possible side effect. Quickly she called her doctor who assured her he'd never heard of such a connection. Her chiropractor was equally baffled by the sudden onset of debilitating pain.

You can read about what Sarah discovered here, (link). Suffice it to say both Sarah and her chiropractor have since shared what she learned with others with a sudden onset of severe back pain they no longer need to endure.

Whenever Paul and Sarah mentioned these two experiences to others, they would invariably jump in to share something they'd discovered that the doctor didn't tell them. And the Edwards knew they had to create this site.

“As we say on the Home Page,” Sarah points out, “we have good doctors. We love our doctors. But we're each different. No one can know what will work best for everyone. We each need to take a proactive role in our health and work with our doctors to find the best answers for us personally.”

“And we need to share our collective wisdom,” Paul adds. “Information is helpful because it expands what we know; knowledge is helpful because it allows us to understand what we know; but wisdom enables us to put what we know to work for us.”

The Edwards hope many people will the share things they've discovered that have helped them be well, get well and live well, so after talking with their doctors, others might find solutions that will help them too.
