Worrying yourself over relatively mino r events and setbacks, be they real or anticipated, can send you to early grave. Research from Purdue University suggests that worrying floods the body with the damage-caus ing, stress-related hormone cortisol. True, worriers tend to be over prepared and thus are often very successful according to psychologist Emanuel Maidenberg of ULCA. But p erhaps we need to redefine success. Surely a longer, more relaxed lifespan should qualify. As John Ruskin says, “There is not wealth but life.”
