Did You Know…
Even outdoor second-hand smoke may by harmful, says one of a number of recent studies on outdoor smoking by Stanford University researchers. The US Surgeon General claims indoor second-hand smoke kills nearly 50,000 people per year. This research shows that someone sitting within two feet of a single burning cigarette at an outdoor café could inhale as much pollution as in a smoky indoor tavern. When in the presence of outdoor smokers, people can protect themselves, says the lead author of the Stanford report, by staying upwind from someone smoking or sitting at least six feet away, or further if it's a group of smokers.
